Saturday the 23rd, I had the chance to photograph the wedding of Megan and Clay. I was excited to photograph the wedding as it was my first chance to photograph a wedding a Maymont. The weather was warm and a bit cloudy which lead to a perfect day for getting shots with natural light. The ceremony and reception were beautiful, another great job done by Colleen Cook of CCS Events and her staff. I want to thank Megan and Clay for letting me be a part of their special day, and I hope they love the images I captured. Looking forward to my next Maymont wedding, in two weeks!

Earlier this week I received in the mail my newest lens, one that I had been wanting to purchase for quite sometime; a Canon 100mm 2.8 USM Macro The lens will be my “go to” lens for capturing anything that needs a close, detailed shot. I wanted to get out and just take some shots with it, getting a feel for the lens. I headed over to my Mother and Father inlaws home as my Father inlaw has quite the green thumb when it comes to growing plants.

Growing up in Burke, VA I could always be found with my older brother playing sports or getting into trouble (nothing serious) with Charles and Mike. As we have all become older and life has taken us in many different directions, it was nice to catch up with them on Facebook last month. I told Mike about my photography and once I found out he had a young son I had mentioned that we should take some shots sometime. Well that sometime was today. Mike and his wife Cristen spent the weekend at Smith Mountain Lake for a vacation and then made there way to Richmond this morning before heading home to Centerville,VA. We met at Dogwood Dell to take some shots, continue to catch up, and even reminisce a bit about the past. This was only my 2nd attempt at doing “Family Portraits” as I have found that photographing children of any age is quite difficult, but Luke was a trooper and was a joy to photograph. Had a great time this morning with the three of them.

Well friends and family are asking the big question, “What does the baby nursery look like?” Well for those that do not know, Tiffany and I are expecting our first child this November; Britlin Ann Linkowitz “Brit”, “Bitty” will have quite a designer room to start her life in. I painted the room, while Tiffany (and her Mom) were in charge of the decorating while I was in Minnesota.
Tiffany wanted to take some pictures of the room with her camera, I decided to “get artsy” and use the chance to to use my new Canon 16-35 2.8 lens, and also use some new design software to make the blog images.

Last Wednesday night I flew out of Richmond and headed out the the Midwest! Flying into Minneapolis, and then into Bemidji,MN where my brother picked me up to take me to Park Rapids, MN. My brother John has lived in “PR” for quite sometime and was able to take some time from a busy schedule to let me come up and relax for a few days. I had a great time from fishing (11 fish total), “Tubing”, Golfing to meeting his friends. I did have the chance to bring a little bit of my photography gear with me, it was odd shooting “nature/landscapes” as that is something I usually do not do!

Restaurant on Main Street, sad to say it was closed for operations..

“Long Lost Lake” actually flooded in 2001, this was a common scene around the lake.

This is the start of the Mississippi River in the Itasca State Park.

Earlier this year I began this blog as a prospective client wanted to know a bit more about me, and see what things I photographed for myself. Well since opening the blog I have done just that a few times but have been busy getting sessions and edits completed before even having a chance to shoot “for myself” I hope I will be able to in the near future. For my 22nd birthday, five years ago Tiffany had bought me a Boston Terrier puppy! Well, Kip turned 5 years old today and I thought I would celebrate the day by taking some updated shots of him. When Tiffany got home from work this evening we made our way in the “Car Car” (That’s how Kip knows the car) to Stony Point so he could get some gourmet treats at “Three Dog Bakery”

This one was not shot with a release, or tripod! Tiffany took this shot

Today was a first for many things while doing an E-Session! I have never had to take a boat to get to a location, I’ve never shot at a battlefield and I have never climbed a tree into a “treehouse” to get a shot. Jimmy and Brandy were awesome to photograph, and willing to try some ideas out. I was excited how the composite shot came out, and no Jimmy, I won’t charge extra for the use of additional gear. It was nice getting to spend sometime with them as there wedding will be here quite soon, October 4th. I think the neat thing about the day was getting to see/shoot at the exact spot that Jimmy proposed to Brandy. Looking forward to the 4th of October as the wedding in Mckenny, VA is sure to be a good time.

What more could anyone want for a wedding day…Perfect weather, beautiful church, and a reception at The Bolling Haxall house! Saturday’s wedding was very nice and I want to congratulate Rob and Elizabeth on their marriage. I was hoping to tag along with them to their Thailand honeymoon but that just won’t be happening. I also want to thank Colleen Cook, wedding coordinator from CCS Events for doing an amazing job making sure the wedding day was a great one! Lots and lots of images, but here are a few that caught my eye…

Early this afternoon I had the chance to do a family portrait session, possibly something new I might be offering as I’ve done a few in the past that have gone well and have been asked many times over the past year if I did do them. Steve and Kelly are the new parents to Aubrey, a beautiful two month old girl. Not having ever taken portraits of a newborn (other than my niece) I was really trying before the shoot to gather ideas and to go into the session with a mindset that it was an engagement session, plus a newborn
Steve and Kelly opened their doors to their beautiful home for the shoot. I had an awesome time and am looking forward to possibly shooting more “Family Portraits” in the future….

Tonight, (technically last night as it’s now 12:15am) Elizabeth and Rob had their rehearsal dinner which began with a cocktail hour that I was invited to attend. It was unique for me to be at an event prior to the wedding day festivities but it was nice getting to be a part of something I usually wouldn’t see, and having the chance to meet family members. The Jefferson is truly an amazing venue! Tomorrow’s wedding at St. Patricks and The Bolling Haxall House is going to be amazing!
